Using household cleaners these days is like washing your hard earned dollars right down the drain. Those products typically don’t even get the jobs done. But there are better, cheaper, and safer alternatives.
Practical Soft Scrub Alternative
This cleaner is an inexpensive, great smelling, effective and safer for your family. And you definitely won’t be washing more money down the drain!
- 1 1/2 cups baking soda more as needed
- 1/2 cup environmentally safe liquid laundry detergent or soap (i.e., Trader Joe’s, Next to Godliness or Costco’s Ecos are several; or use your own homemade liquid laundry soap)
- 10 drops of GSE (Grapefruit seed extract) for additional disinfecting power (or use 10 drops of tea tree or lavender or rosemary essential oil for the same effect)
Directions
Mix 1/2 cup laundry detergent in a medium size mixing bowl with ½ cup baking soda and stir to combine. Start adding baking soda ½ cup at a time until mixture is the consistency of cake frosting. If needed, add a little water to achieve the correct consistency. Transfer mixture to a quart canning jar or container with a lid and keep tightly closed. If mixture begins to dry, add in a little water and stir.
Use soft scrub with a clean, damp rag. Scrub sinks and faucets or other areas as desired. Rinse as needed. Use a clean dry cloth to dry and shine the sink and chrome faucets.
