Practical Homemade Powdered Milk

Powdered Milk

In my continued efforts to save money, I’ve decided to give powdered milk a try. Now I would never consider telling my family that we were going to be using powdered milk, I would never hear the end of it. I had spent some time in the months before hand researching different brands of powdered milk, after many recommendations I bought six cans of Morning Moo’s Milk Alternative. I was told it tasted more like the regular milk bought at a grocery store, and that was the biggest selling point for me.

So the day finally came that we used the last bit of a gallon of milk from the grocery store, I waited until the kids were off to school, I washed out the milk jug and followed the directions to make a gallon of Morning Moo’s powdered milk.

Mixing Instructions for 1 gallon of milk:

  1. Mix 2 cups of dry milk into 1 quart of warm water, until dissolved.
  2. Add 3 quarts of cold water, store in a closed container, and chill before serving.

I poured the milk into the cleaned out milk jug, secured the lid and placed it into the fridge. With excitement I waiting until the kids got home from school….I was preparing a snack when my son asked for a drink of milk…with a gigantic smile I said yes and poured the milk for him. I waited….and waited….and waited….he finished the glass of milk, jumped down from the chair and when about playing with his toys. Not a word about the powdered milk, nothing about it tasting different, nothing, just drank it like normal! I found it, the powdered milk that will save me money!!

Thank you for all the recommendations; I am one happy and frugal mama!
