Homemade Floor Cleaner

Homemade Floor Cleaner

You know it is time to clean the hardwood floors, when you can’t walk across it without sticking. You can see milk drops from the baby’s bottle everywhere, and last night’s dinner is squished into the cracks and crevices of the hardwood (how does that even happen??), unfortunately it is long overdue and has to be done today! I started to gather the supplies needed to clean the floor when I realized I was out of the cleaning supplies I thought I had in my garage. My kids asked if we were going to go to the store and I said no way, we are going to use mom’s homemade floor cleaner! These supplies were very simple to gather together, as I had all of the ingredients right in the kitchen. We mixed up the ingredients to clean the floor and my kids had a blast cleaning the floor, and I had fun watching them mopping and drying the floor. It is always a good day when they love to help with the household chores. The best part of this floor cleaner was that I didn’t have to worry about any of the ingredients they were using. The most frustrating thing I find about all cleaners is that they all have warnings signs on the bottle telling you how toxic they are, and with little children in my house that is the last thing I want to worry about. I have heard of many people’s children being hospitalized after ingesting some of these cleaning products, and that just breaks my heart. I have taken all of my purchased cleaners and put them in the garage in a shelf that cannot be reached without a stool. I am what is called an over protective parent, but if I can save my child from hurting it is worth every minute of it. And if I can find a way to make a safe cleaning product that is VERY inexpensive and works famously on my floor then why not!! Below are the two flooring cleaners I have used on my hardwood, tile, and laminate floors.

So my very simple floor cleaner is ½ cup vinegar mixed with a gallon of water.

The other cleaner I like to use is ¼ cup borax, 2 tablespoons of shampoo, mixed in 1 gallon of water.

That’s it!!
