Homemade Dishwasher Soap

Homemade Dishwasher Soap

After months of struggling with a white film over all mt dishes, buying jet dry and every other concoction on the market, I gave up and started hand washing all my dishes. With 5 kids running from game to game and trying to maintain my little family house and garden I started looking for a “better way.”

There are many ideas on the Internet how to get rid of the white film, but here is the best recipe I found to both clean my dishes and get rid ot the white film It works really well, and after using it I will never go back to store-bought detergent. Homemade dishwasher detergent is going to depend a lot on your water. Is is hard water or do you have a softener? I calculated the cost per load for this at 4 cents per load.

DIY Dishwasher Detergent

1-1/2 cup Washing Soda washing soda is a natural water softener, abrasive, and is pure cleaning power.

1/2 cup Borax a finer abrasive for glass

1/4 cup Citric Acid works on hard water marks and residue but be conservative as it counter acts washing soda.

1/2 – 1 teaspoon of Dawn – Optional adds cleaning power – be very careful as it adds suds.

Combine ingredients and mix well.

Double or triple the recipe as needed.

Vinegar works well in the “Rinse Aid” compartment for shiny and residue free dishes.

Add 1-2 Tablespoons in the bottom of your washer if you have hard water.

Add lemon essential oil for a lemony clean smell
