I love cooking dutch oven – but the best part is you don’t have to cook in a Dutch Oven, especially when it is 4 degrees F. outside! I bought an Cast Iron Enamel Oven pan for cooking inside and started cooking. I can’t tell you how excited I was. The options for this pan seemed endless. I can’t wait to show you all of the recipes I have tried. But for today lets start with making Bread.
Ingredients
- 1 cup warm water
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 tablespoon dry yeast
- 2½ cups flour
- 1 egg
Instructions
- If using a Dutch Oven:
- top coals
- bottom coals
- If using an indoor oven:
- degrees F. 20 to 25 minutes
- Dissolve yeast in water with sugar. Sift flour and salt together; then mix egg and oil together. Mix egg mixture with yeast and half the flour. Beat with a wooden spoon until smooth. Mix in the remaining flour and beat until smooth. Knead; cover and let the dough rise until double in size about 10 minutes. Punch dough down and knead until smooth and place in greased pan. Spread butter on the top of the bread. Let rise 30 minutes. Bake until brown. If using a Dutch oven - 12 minutes with the coals on the top and bottom. Then finish with coals just on top.
